This building was designed as a final project for an Advanced Design Studio course in my Master of Arts in Advanced Architecture Design program. Covering approximately 70,000 sq ft across nine floors, the concept of the building was centered on using a geometric form to create a distinctive and memorable architectural identity.
The design intentionally contrasts with the surrounding buildings, which predominantly employ sharp, square forms. The community center is enveloped by a frame of precast concrete “petals” that function as both external walls and interior partitions, with some overlapping the building to define and organize internal spaces. addition, transparent petals are incorporated as a shading system, helping to reduce solar heat gain and conserve energy while maintaining openness and visual connectivity.
